Broccoli is thought to have originated along the coast of the Mediterranean, most likely in Italy. It is thought that Romans ate broccoli but did not differentiate it from cauliflower in their writings.
Broccoli is a plant in the cabbage family. It has a larger flowered head, usually green in colour, arranged in a tree like fashion on branches sprouting from a thick edible stalk.
Broccoli is usually boiled or steamed, but it can be eaten raw.
