The potato is a member of the nightshade family.
The potato started being grown in London by 1597, and soon became popular in Ireland and Scotland.

Maris Piper has a pleasant floury texture it is therefore ideal for many potato dishes from chips and roast potatoes, mash and wedges. It has a creamy coloured flesh and although technically its skin is white to yellow in colour, it is regarded as a ‘white’ potato and is widely available.
Wilja is a variety that has yellow skin, light yellow flesh. Moderately firm, slightly dry texture. Wilja is suitable for boiling, roasting and mashing.
Charlotte (salad potato) has a distinctive long, oval shape, with white skin and a moist texture. It is ideal for so much more than just salads. Charlotte stays firm when cooked and can also be very successfully sauted. Charlotte is suitable for salads and boiling.
Marfona (baking potato) has an almost ‘buttery’ flavour and a smooth waxy texture making it a very popular variety for baking. Marfona is great baked in both the microwave or the oven. Marfona has a white to yellow skin and light yellow flesh and is grown predominantly in England.
